This tutorial will teach you how to make text fade in and out. It's pretty simple, requires no Actionscript and within minutes you'll have some fading text!
This tutorial starts with the text fading in and then fading out. If you want the opposite, just set the Tint amounts opposite of what I mention (ie: 100% -> 0% and vice versa).
Step 1
In Frame #1, create the text you want to fade. Select the text and make it a symbol. You can do this by going to Modify > Convert To Symbol, or by hitting F8. Name it whatever you wish and choose Graphic. With your text selected, go to the Properties Inspector (Window > Properties or Ctrl+F3 if you don't see it) and from the Color drop-down menu choose Tint. Set the amount to 100%.
Step 2
Go to and left-click once on Frame #20 and insert a keyframe (Either by right-clicking and choosing Insert Keyframe or F6). Select your text graphic again and in the Properties Inspector and this time set the Tint amount to 0%.
Step 3
Now go to Frame 40 and insert a keyframe here as well. Select your text graphic once more and go back to the Properties Inspector, setting the Tint amount to 100%.
Step 4
Now that we're done with setting up the frames for the fade, go back to and left-click once on Frame 1. In the Properties Inspector select Motion from the Tween drop-down menu. Left-click once on Frame 20 and do the same thing.
Step 5
All done! Test your movie. (Ctrl + Enter)
