Step 1

In Frame #1, create the text you want to fade. Select the text (it should have a blue box around it) and make it a symbol. You can do this by going to Insert > Convert To Symbol, or by hitting F8. Choose Movie Clip and OK out.

On your Properties Inspector (should appear below your work area, if not: Window > Properties, or right click on your text and choose Properties) you will see a drop-down "Color" menu. From this menu choose Alpha and then set the slider to the right to 0%.

Step 2

Go to Frame #20 and insert a keyframe (Either by Insert > Keyframe or F6). Convert To Symbol. Choose Movie Clip and OK out. Go back to your Properties Inspector and set the Alpha field back to 100%.

Step 3

Go to Frame #40 and insert a keyframe. Go back to the Properties Inspector one more time and set the Alpha field back to 0%. Now right click your layer and choose Select All Frames and then right click again and choose Create Motion Tween.

Step 4

Test your movie. (Ctrl + Enter)
